Did you know major gifts strategies have the highest return-on-investment, especially for small shop nonprofits? This presentation is especially tailored to new fundraisers, nonprofits without a "fancy" database, or anyone who wants to take a more structured approach to thinking about and planning for major donors.
Part 1: What is "major" anyway? You'll learn about some simple ways to think about "major" gifts and demystify the topic. If you have your fundraising records on hand, you can dig right in!
Part 2: Simple analysis. You'll learn what trends to look for in your donors' giving history and how to identify which donors have the greatest potential for major giving. Some very basic Excel/Google Sheets knowledge will be useful, and if your shop uses a database, having access to it will be useful, though not required.
Part 3: You'll learn how to make an annual donor engagement plan for each major donor and break it down into monthly checklists to help you track your engagement (useful for periodic staff evaluations, and mid-year course corrections).
You will leave this workshop with a tool (an Excel/Google Sheets spreadsheet) to help you identify and cultivate your major donors. You'll use this tool to plan your engagements based on your donor's individual giving cycle, and customize your stewardship and cultivation efforts to their specific interest in your mission. This tool can also be used to plan for grant reporting, board engagement, and corporate sponsorships, and should be accompanied by an annual marketing schedule or content calendar for best results.
By the end of this presentation, attendees should:
1. Define "major giving" for your nonprofit
2. Identify your major donors
3. Create individualized plans for each major donor, broken down into a monthly checklist of cultivation tasks
