When you change a behavior or a system, you alter it or redirect it. The change also is a response to external forces to modify behavior. And, with change, you can go back and undo it. When you transform a behavior or a system, you are dismantling it or deconstructing it with the intention to remove or eliminate the behavior or system; thus, there is no going back. Through transformation, you are building something new from the ground up and creating new paths to solving problems that are community-centered and emerge with an innovative and more inclusive approach to building community partnerships and serving stakeholders. Organizations that shift from charity to a social justice mindset are committed to the process, more inclusive of ideas and people, and are more resilient.
1) Learn the key attributes and planning steps required for nonprofits to embrace a shift from a charity mindset to a social justice mindset.
2) Explore and share how to build new community-nonprofit partnerships to drive equitable engagement and participation of diverse stakeholders, and
3) Gain tools and knowledge on ways to introduce the goals and benefits of shifting to social justice mindset in your organization.
